Asti. Northern Italy. March 1988. The consolidation of the friendship and the common passion for extreme violence between drummer/vocalist Giulio the Bastard (aged 14) and guitarist Alberto the Crippler (aged 17), both coming from local thrash/punk bands that didn’t fit their tastes and didn’t match their ambitions, spawned the CRIPPLE BASTARDS.
The initial aim of the two youngsters was to keep alive the legendary Italian hardcore spirit of CCM, Negazione, Raw Power, Wretched etc. and to mix it with the fresh extremism of the fastcore / grindcore pioneers releasing records through revolutionary labels like Children of Revolution, Selfish/Japan, Earache, Peaceville and Manic Ears. This original crossover of styles, coupled with the aural viciousness inspired by early noisecore outfits like Seven Minutes Of Nausea, was topped by Giulio’s unique creative approach at lyrical writing focusing on human annihilation and existential decay.
From the early 2 piece line-up (1988-1991), CRIPPLE BASTARDS gradually added new members (mainly drummers and bass-players, keeping GTB on vocals and ATC on guitar) but had to deal with constant personnel changes until core member Alberto the Crippler definitely abandoned music in 1998, the year the band found the definitive line-up consisting in:

After 5 successful demotapes and 3 x 7" ep's recorded between 1988 and 1993 and distributed through Giulio's own "E.U. '91 SerbianLeague" D.I.Y. label, the CRIPPLE BASTARDS start to build a solid reputation of merciless noise mongers. They gained cult status worldwide by releasing more than 20 EPs / split EPs, 4 full length albums, 2 anthological collection CDs and the "Falafel Grind" tribute CD with 32 international bands covering their most classic tunes.
The band key releases are the three full length albums “Your lies in check” (Ecocentric Records (D) / E.U.’91 Produzioni (I), 1996), “Misantropo a senso unico” (Deaf American Recordings (U.S.A.) / E.U.’91 Produzioni (I) / Peculio Discos (Brazil), 2000) and "Desperately insensitive" (Necropolis Records (U.S.A.), 2003) and the two anthological collection CDs “Best crimes” (Grand Theft Audio (U.S.A.), 1996) + “Almost Human” (Obscene Productions (CZ), 2000) including all the non-album material released between 1993 and 1999. CRIPPLE BASTARDS third full length album “Desperately insensitive”, recorded at Nadir Studio by Sadist’s guitarist and Italian premier producer Tommy Talamanca, was released by Necropolis Records (U.S.A.) and marketed in Europe via Century Media Records. In the span of 3 years it has been repressed on CD by Peculio Discos (Brazil) and Obscene Productions (both in Europe and Asia) and on vinyl LP by Deep Six Records (U.S.A.) and Massacro Records (Italy): reaching the number of 10.000 pressed copies “Desperately insensitive” became CRIPPLE BASTARDS absolute best-seller and a true underground grindcore classic.

CRIPPLE BASTARDS has been constantly hitting the road since 1992 playing all over the world, the current line-up alone played more than 300 shows including three full length tours (Europe 2000, U.S. East Coast 2002 and U.S. West Cost 2003) and appearances in international underground festivals like "Fuck The Commerce" (D), "Obscene Extreme" (CZ), "Mayland Death Fest" (USA) sharing the stage with acts like Napalm Death, Dismember, Suffocation, Pungent Stench, Brutal Truth, Nasum, Ratos de Porão, Extreme Noise Terror, Varukers and Chaos UK among others.

After unleashing the highly acclaimed split 7”s with Eyehategod on Southern Lord Recordings (U.S.A.) and with Sublime Cadaveric Decomposition on Relapse Records (U.S.A.) the Bastards bring to light a huge anthological double DVD called “Blackmails and assholism” on Obscene Productions (CZ), a 6+ hours monsterwork documenting the band’s entire career.

In 2008 CRIPPLE BASTARDS celebrate their 20 year anniversary signing with FETO Records, the UK based label owned and operated by Shane Embury (NAPALM DEATH) and Mick Kenney (ANAAL NATHRAKH), and release their 4th full length album "Variante alla morte", feat. 24 tracks of hard-thrashing Hate/Grind all sung in Italian, recorded at legendary Studio Fredman (Sweden) with mixing desk extraordinaire Fredrik Nordström (At The Gates, Dimmu Borgir, In Flames, Arch Enemy, Hammerfall)

I CRIPPLE BASTARDS nascono ad Asti nel Marzo 1988 come risultato dell’amicizia e della passione per l’estremismo sonoro di Giulio the Bastard e Alberto the Crippler, con l’obiettivo principale di rifarsi all’ondata Grindcore che stava venendo alla luce in quel periodo (1988-90 furono gli anni in cui la Earache lanciò il genere grazie a CARCASS, NAPALM DEATH, TERRORIZER, ELECTRO HIPPIES e molti altri) riuscendo a fonderlo ad un’impronta personale, in parte catturata dall’Hardcore/Thrash italiano degli anni ‘80. Dalla primissima formazione a due, i CB si evolvono gradualmente inserendo nuovi componenti e arrivando ad un proprio stile caratteristico incentrato sul nichilismo musicale più feroce. Nel primo decennio di attività realizzano una quantità enorme di dischi su piccole etichette underground sparse per il mondo: 5 demotapes, oltre 20 singoli e vari CD/LP/10” ecc… questo gli permette di guadagnarsi (a livello internazionale) la fama di icona assoluta del Grindcore “made in Italy” e di avere un seguito enorme sia di appassionati che di bands fortemente influenzate da quel loro modo di reinterpretare il genere. Del periodo che va dal 1988 al 1998 è essenziale ricordare il primo album “Your lies in check” (uscito su Ecocentric Records, Germania), la raccolta in CD “Best crimes” (uscita per la Grand Theft Audio californiana, etichetta che ha prodotto anche materiale di RAW POWER, AGNOSTIC FRONT, ADRENALIN .O.D. ecc) e una notevole gavetta live sia in Italia che all’estero. Nel 1999 firmano per la Deaf American di Rich Hoak (batterista dei defunti BRUTAL TRUTH) e realizzano l’acclamatissimo secondo album “Misantropo a senso unico” recensito a massimi voti da qualsiasi rivista specializzata. E nello stesso anno la band raggiunge finalmente una formazione stabile che rimane tutt’ora inalterata e solida:

..dal ’99 fino ad oggi i CB collezionano centinaia di concerti memorabili sia in Italia che in buona parte dell’Europa (Germania, Austria, Svizzera, Olanda, Francia, Spagna, Belgio, Repubblica Ceca, Slovacchia, varie zone della ex Yugoslavia ecc..) partecipando anche a festival di tutto rispetto come il Fuck The Commerce tedesco e l’Obscene Extreme in Repubblica Ceca (dove i CB son stati co-headliners per ben 4 edizioni diverse). Tra la moltitudine di bands con cui suonano o fanno tour ci sono nomi del calibro di NAPALM DEATH, NASUM, EXTREME NOISE TERROR, FEAR OF GOD, RATOS DE PORAO, VARUKERS, CHAOS UK, FINAL CONFLICT, DROPDEAD, HELLNATION, REGURGITATE e la lista prosegue all’infinito. Nel 2000 la Obscene Prod. pubblica un CD tributo ai Cripple con 32 bands da tutto il mondo che coverizzano i brani più classici... Nel Maggio del 2002 partono per il primo tour negli USA, East Coast, proponendo la loro aggressione hate/grind in città come Boston, Providence, Philadelphia e a New York nel popolarissimo “CBGB”. Questo gli permette di arrivare a un contratto con la Necropolis Records (etichetta che ha prodotto anche DARK FUNERAL, INCANTATION, IMPALED, ROTTEN SOUND ecc. con distribuzione europea esclusiva della Century Media) e realizzare per loro il terzo album “Desperately insensitive”, che ancora una volta riafferma la violenza granitica dei CB, ottenendo grande riscontro sia dal pubblico metal che dalla scena più legata all’Hardcore apolitico. Per promuovere questa nuova uscita, nell’Ottobre 2003 tornano negli States per un acclamatissimo tour insieme ai PHOBIA, attraversando California, Oregon, Utah, Colorado, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona… e addirittura Messico (nessun gruppo underground italiano ci aveva suonato prima!).. il genere proposto attualmente dai CB è un Grindcore tecnico, velocissimo e saturo di rabbia, caratterizzato da muro sonoro di basso/chitarra, una sezione ritmica fulminante e i 17 anni di “urlatore alla sbarra” del frontman, fondatore del gruppo, GTB. Di recente i CB hanno pubblicato un nuovo brano sullo split EP con i mitici EYEHATEGOD, uscito per la Southern Lord Records e per quest’anno è in progetto la realizzazione del loro DVD antologico “Blackmails & assholism 1988-2005” + la registrazione di nuovi pezzi, di nuovo interamente in italiano come in “Misantropo a senso unico”.
